It really is the first chance to say hello and thank you for seeking us out. While I have a moment of your time, I will just jump right in and tell you a tiny snippet of who and what Galleriedesart is all about.
As a private collector, I have acquired artwork for my own enjoyment for many years
Most times 19th Century portraiture and still life but also impressionism and post-impressionist works together with genre paintings which I find hugely fascinating. There is really something truly wonderful within the simplicity of the ‘everyday’ so for me perhaps a simple domestic scene, the kitchen maid, the nursery, gathering the harvest, or a character lost in thought amidst a moment of solitude is enough.
They all have the capability to captivate and were all owned by someone else who equally found them enchanting, so in essence that is why I have chosen to create Galleriedesart, to unearth wonderful examples of all and any art classification and to bring those works to the open market for you to own and in doing so become part of their history.

While we absolutely relish the challenge, we are mindful that finding quality examples takes a great deal of time and effort. We undertake the required research with auction houses, private estate sales, and extensive online network enquiries to source wonderful opportunities for your consideration.
All of our works are owned outright, we only acquire pieces having satisfied our provenance research, thoroughly delving into the artwork and the biography of the artist to provide as much supporting information as can be gleaned from both primary and secondary sources, and by utilising the various art resource capabilities we have available. For artists with a public data set, we provide an in-depth artist biography as sourced through numerous avenues. This research is undertaken in house by me, James, who holds a First Class BA (Honours) in Art History and an MA in Art History. I specialise in Neoclassicism and French Impressionism, with a particular interest in uncovering the real-world social and financial contradictions behind the ‘avant-garde’, - both in the artworks themselves and in the way their history has traditionally been written.
